Clean Transportation

Most of the air pollution in our region comes from transportation – cars, trucks, ships, planes, and trains. Engine exhaust contains fine and diesel particulate matter, smog-forming chemicals, and cancer-causing toxics, all of which can affect our health.

Transportation emissions also create nearly 40% of our region’s greenhouse gases, which contribute to climate change.

The Agency is focusing on Clean Transportation efforts to reduce these health and climate impacts throughout our region.

The West Coast Collaborative is a partnership between leaders from federal, state, Tribal, local and U.S. territorial government agencies, the private sector, academia, non-profit and environmental organizations committed to reducing medium- and heavy-duty diesel emissions and advancing clean air technologies, policies, and practices across Western North America.

Breaking Barriers Collaborative
Breaking Barriers Collaborative has developed a Fleet Decarbonization Accelerator. This hands-on, cohort-based program equips businesses and organizations with the knowledge, tools, and networks to create actionable fleet decarbonization plans.

Washington Green Transportation Program
The Washington Green Transportation Program provides education and technical assistance to help public fleets make the switch to vehicles that use cleaner fuels. A team of specialized Green Fleet Experts can provide resources and assistance to organizations making the switch to clean fuels.

The Green Transportation Program also convenes the Alternative Fuels and Vehicles Technical Advisory Group (AFV TAG), jointly with the Washington Department of Commerce. The AFV TAG convenes fleet and facility managers, policymakers, and industry stakeholders to discuss the latest technology and policy trends, and to share experiences about alternative fuels and vehicles.
