Title VI Plan

Title VI was enacted as part of the landmark Civil Rights Act of 1964. It prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, and national origin in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. In 1963, President John F. Kennedy said:

Simple justice requires that public funds, to which all taxpayers of all races [colors, and national origins] contribute, not be spent in any fashion which encourages, entrenches, subsidizes or results in racial [color or national origin] discrimination.

The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency has an active Title VI Plan in place to do what is within our control to ensure non-discriminatory practices. In addition, we evaluate our procedures and practices on an annual basis to ensure our approaches are as accessible and meaningful as possible. Our efforts extend beyond non-discrimination to access, including a Limited English Proficiency Plan.

Title VI requires that no person in the United States of America shall, on the grounds of race, color, sex, or national origin, be excluded from the participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity for which the Agency receives federal financial assistance. In addition to the grounds covered under Title VI, the Agency also assures that no person shall be excluded from participation in Agency programs or activities on the basis of creed, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, disability, marital or veteran status.
